i've just played the first 20-30 minutes of Heavy Rain and something happened that made my brain say, yes.  a lot. so, overall i find the premise odd.  it really isn't a game, more of an interactive movie.  however, after i was done doing my chores around the house (in the game!) i went outside to play with the kids, shaun and some other kid whose name i've forgotten already!  this is when my brain exploded with thoughts.  a lot of the 'gameplay' asks you to press a button in time or do a specific set of gestures with the controller, it's basically QTE-city, but, while i was sword fighting with shaun it suddenly occured to me not to press a button in time, shouldn't winning not matter here?  in fact, wouldn't it be better to let shaun win, afterall, it is only horseplay?  so i started failing some of the button presses on purpose, and sure enough, i let him eventually pretend to slay me.  there was lots of fun and laughter etc.  now, i don't know if that is always the outcome, i'm assuming not considering the general structure of these events and it just got me thinking.
seriously, think about it, it's a completely different way to approach certain elements in gameplay.  losing to gain a reward? i see possibilities here.
