about my work
My professional experience dates as far back as 1994 when i did some freelance work for Mythos Games on X:COM - Apocalypse and ended up designing the city map. I have tried many aspects of the games industry, from testing games, being an environment artist to even trying music. But, at heart, i've always loved the design aspects of my job and decided to pursue this further as my goal. Every job i have taken or done has taken me closer and closer to game design. Although i love game design, i do miss the nitty-gritty of building the bare bones of a level and what it may hold for the player. But, we'll see where i goes.
I also really love working with tools, and, as a straight game designer, doing systems or mechanics that is rare occurrence. As a level designer i can 'meddle' and 'tinker' with all the little bits and bobs that go on inside a level in a much deeper way! it also allows me to find interesting ways of achieving goals that the original creator of a tool may not have intended. it is that exploration and evolving process that keeps me so in love with the craft.
Ultimately i want to work with like minded people.... people who love to make games and want to have fun doing so. I want to work with people that work hard, play hard and enjoy life for what it is and what it gives us. I want to work with people that are willing to try out new possibilities or ideas and see where they lead but also know when something just isn't going to work and not waste time and energy forcing the world to mold around it. I want to work with people that get as much of a rush as i do finally seeing their game on a shelf somewhere with all it's new game manual smell and shrink wrap glory! :)
