New job!

Posted by harryluck in daily news with Comments43
So, i'm off to Denver, CO.  After a nice little break playing as many games as possible (seriously... i'll list them after this segment), i'm off to work with a small band of awesome people, IllFonic.  I'll be working on something fun with people that seem to understand the word... so, i'm really excited.  Got lots to organize, which is one of the reasons updates to my site have been a little slow... but hey... they'll be plenty of time for all that.
Anyway, here are the games i have played and completed in the last few weeks... i have been a true couch potato!
God of War 3 (7/10) - doesn't live up to the hype... but is still a very pretty and impressive game
God of War 1 (8/10) - finally broke down and played it.  Very awesome, great story.  Some seriously annoying parts, but great overall.
God of War 2 (6/10) - Weak sauce in comparison to one, way less interesting story and some overly contrived levels.  Still fun though.
Mercenaries 2 (7/10) - Great fun if you like ridiculous open world games.  Missions get a bit samey, but... still had great fun with this.
Crackdown (7/10) - Didn't play this when it first came out, glad i finally got around to it.  But, died way too much and sadly, the most fun parts were actually the non-essential side missions.
Alone in the Dark - (3/10) - How do you mess up a franchise so classic so badly.  Honestly.  Buggiest game i've ever played.  And a game with so much potential.  Could have been what Alan Wake is going to be if they'd seen through some of their features properly.  Too much not done well.
Just Cause 2 (9/10) - The only real flaw with this game is repetition.  Aside from that, it is pretty, HUGE and just good fun.
Dead to Rights: Retribution (8/10) - This got generally bad reviews and i don't know why.  This was just good.  Over the top story, great flair and style to the combat.  Fiddly at times, but... there was enough varied missions to make that unimportant.  I loved it.

more updates

Posted by harryluck in daily news with Comments are switched off!
okay, so added a few more videos to take a look at as well as some more content in my gallery
apart from that, things have been pretty slow, still trying to work on Ashes (check out the demo video) but have hit a bit of a wall with what to do next! :)
also added one of my older tutorials.
i guess that is about it, still feeling like the living dead, so... probably not much updating going to be happening for a few days.
see you soon.

you'll also find a tonne of stuff in my gallery (although, this will be an ongoing effort to populate).

heavy rain

Posted by harryluck in rants and raves with Comments are switched off!
i've just played the first 20-30 minutes of Heavy Rain and something happened that made my brain say, yes.  a lot. so, overall i find the premise odd.  it really isn't a game, more of an interactive movie.  however, after i was done doing my chores around the house (in the game!) i went outside to play with the kids, shaun and some other kid whose name i've forgotten already!  this is when my brain exploded with thoughts.  a lot of the 'gameplay' asks you to press a button in time or do a specific set of gestures with the controller, it's basically QTE-city, but, while i was sword fighting with shaun it suddenly occured to me not to press a button in time, shouldn't winning not matter here?  in fact, wouldn't it be better to let shaun win, afterall, it is only horseplay?  so i started failing some of the button presses on purpose, and sure enough, i let him eventually pretend to slay me.  there was lots of fun and laughter etc.  now, i don't know if that is always the outcome, i'm assuming not considering the general structure of these events and it just got me thinking.
seriously, think about it, it's a completely different way to approach certain elements in gameplay.  losing to gain a reward? i see possibilities here.

getting things together

Posted by harryluck in daily news with Comments are switched off!
so, i've finally found a good way to get a lot of my content up here, the content manager for e107 just wasn't useful enough for me in the end.  but, i discovered coppermine and it is very useful.  that will now be my place for all things media.  yay! :)
wrote a couple more reviews also, so i'll be adding those to my reviews soon.

setting up...

so, i installed e107, hopefully this will make content uploading a damn site easier, and make it much easier to update, and do so from anywhere.
well, not much to say as i am still wrapping my head around this, but soon... i will add more.
